Igor Yu. Schaub \u2014 Doctor of Sciences (History), Professor; Leading Researcher, Department of the History of Classical Culture, Institute for the History of Material Culture of the Russian Academy of Sciences; Professor, St. Philaret\u2019s Institute.<\/p>

Born in 1951, he graduated from the Department of the History of Ancient Greece and Rome, Faculty of History, Leningrad State University, in 1974, where he studied under R. V. Kinzhalov and Yu. V. Andreev. He has worked at the Institute for the History of Material Culture since 1974 and taught at St. Tikhon\u2019s Orthodox University for the Humanities (2000\u20132007) and St. Petersburg State University (since 2006).<\/p>

PhD (Candidate of Sciences) thesis: \u201cCults and Religious Beliefs of the Population of the Bosporus in the 6th\u20134th Centuries BC\u201d (1987). Doctor of Sciences thesis: \u201cHellenic Traditions and Barbarian Influences in the Religious Life of the Greek Colonies of the Northern Black Sea Region (6th\u20134th Centuries BC)\u201d (2010; Archaeology).<\/p>

Research interests: religion and culture of the Greeks and barbarians in the Northern Black Sea region; cultural history of the Ancient World, Western Europe and Russia of the Silver Age; history of religion. He took part in archaeological expeditions at Olbia, Berezan, Nymphaeum, Porthmion and Myrmekion.<\/p>

He is the author of more than 120 scholarly works, including the monographs \u201cMyth, Cult, Ritual in the Northern Black Sea Region (7th\u20134th Centuries BC)\u201d (St. Petersburg, 2007), \u201cItaly \u2014 Scythia: Cultural and Historical Parallels\u201d (Moscow; St. Petersburg, 2008), \u201cHellenic Traditions and Barbarian Influences in the Religious Life of the Greek Colonies of the Northern Black Sea Region\u201d (Saarbr\u00fccken, 2011), \u201cDante: Pro et Contra\u201d (with M. S. Samarina, St. Petersburg, 2011), and the textbook \u201cRussian Culture of the Late 19th \u2014 Early 20th Century: The Silver Age\u201d (Moscow, 2023).<\/p>
